The Good Fairies of New York by Martin Millar

This is easily the best adult fantasy I’ve read in a while. Waaaay better than Anansi Boys, or any Gaiman I’ve read before Neverwhere. In fact, I liked it so much I can’t think of a part that I didn’t like about it. Hmm… maybe the fact that Morag and Heather calls the Chinese fairies “yellow fairies”, but that was the characters’ point of view, so…

Anyway. This book has 18-inch tall fairies of many nationalities. It has a lot of funny stuff that would make you laugh. It has a homeless person who think that she is an ancient greek general, it has ghosts of dead rock stars, and it has fairies who’d rather play the Ramones than traditional songs on their fiddles. This has got to be one of the funniest, cutest books I’ve read in awhile.
