Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish, which I haven’t participated in in a long while! Today’s theme is top ten books I’m anticipated for the rest of 2015, which I’m taking to mean books being published in July onwards. (So, no The Philosopher Kings by Jo Walton in this list, although I don’t have mine yet!)
Ancillary Mercy, Ann Leckie
I guess besides the Jo Walton, this is an obvious addition to my Must Read list of 2015.
Cut Both Ways, Carrie Mesrobian
Queer YA lit that focuses on a bisexual teen? Yes, please. (I’m pleased with the range of LGBT YA titles out this year, even if I wish for more – or any – asexual characters.)
Dumplin’, Julie Murphy
I’m hoping that this will be as good as Susan Vaught’s The Big Fat Manifesto – which, unfortunately, is out of print.
Falling in Love With Hominids, Nalo Hopkinson
New collected fiction. To me the name Nalo Hopkinson on a book is enough, but if you need to know more, this is from the book description: “Her singular, vivid tales, which mix the modern with Afro-Carribean folklore, are occupied by creatures unpredictable and strange: chickens that breathe fire, adults who eat children, and spirits that haunt shopping malls.”
Fans of the Impossible Life, Kate Scelsa
To be completely honest, I want to read this mainly because I like the cover and the title. I do know that this is the story of “a girl, her gay best friend, and the boy in love with both of them.”
The Fifth Season, N.K. Jemisin
New book by N.K. Jemisin! I haven’t finished the Inheritance trilogy, but I can’t wait for this.
The Paper Menagerie, Ken Liu
I’ve noticed that if I’m reading a short story anthology that includes Ken Liu, his story would always be in my top three of the collection. So I’m very excited to know that his stories will be collected into a single volume at last! My favourites so far include “The Paper Menagerie” and “Mono no Aware”, both of which will be in this collection.
Radiance, Catherynne M. Valente
Really, I would read anything by Valente – and I’d probably love it, too – and the fact that this is more SF than her other novels made me want to read this even more.
The Scorpion Rules, Erin Bow
I have to admit that I haven’t read the synopsis for this book. (I may have done so awhile back while going through catalogs, but if I did, I don’t remember it now.) I’m anticipating this mostly because I absolutely loved Erin Bow’s last book, Sorrow’s Knot.
Sorcerer to the Crown, Zen Cho
Another book I’m anticipating because of the author’s previous book. In this case, Zen Cho’s short story collection Spirits Abroad, which impressed me immensely. Sorcerer to the Crown is probably going to be a very different kind of book. Not so Malaysian, for one – although Aliette de Bodard’s review of the book on GR says it includes Malaysian vampires! I wonder which ones? The thought of pontianaks in fantasy!Regency England is a lot of fun.
And some other books that ALMOST went into my list:
The Book of Phoenix, Nnedi Okorafor (I’ve yet to read Who Fears Death though!)
Future Perfect, Jen Larsen
The House of Shattered Wings, Aliette de Board
Step Aside, Pops, Kate Beaton
Which books are you anticipating for the rest of this year?
I was lucky enough to win an ARC of Sorcerer to the Crown on Twitter and I’m so excited to read it 😀 I really want the new Erin Bow too.

I feel like I’ve been waiting on The Fifth Season for the longest time! This is exciting. I can’t say much about Jemisin as an author since I haven’t read her Inheritance trilogy but I do feel like I’d roll around in this new world she’s created!
Cheers,

It really is exciting; somehow I’m anticipating it more than the Inheritance books I’ve yet to finish.

These look like must reads based on covers alone, and your blurbs about them have definitely convinced me. Yay! My TBR is ever expanding. 😉

Ahaha, I think partly because my book hunts start from covers and authors, then synopsis XD I probably won’t be able to read all of these by the end of the year, but I hope to read as many as possible!

Great list! I really can’t wait for Dumplin’ either. I loved the author’s last book, Side Effects May Vary.
Krystianna @ Downright Dystopian

That’s right! I forgot that Side Effects May Vary is by the same author. Now I’m looking forward to it even more 😀
