The #AsianLitBingo Challenge

I haven’t joined a reading challenge in AGES, and this is the first to get me excited in awhile – #AsianLitBingo. It is hosted by a group of bloggers, but the main post can be found here. I’m happy to be diving into Asian Lit again (reading Misa Sugiura last month made me realise how much I miss it, although now I’m sad I didn’t wait til this month to read it!) but to tell the truth, I’m as excited by the bingo part. It reminds me of the fanfic bingo challenges I used to do, I guess. The thing is, May is going to be a super busy month for me at work, so I’m not sure I’ll be able to complete my bingo. I’ll still try my best!

The basic rules for the challenge:

* The goal is to complete a bingo line (vertically, horizontally, or diagonally) for 5 books.
* The book can be fiction or non-fiction, or a novella/graphic novel.
* Books must have an Asian main character AND be by an Asian author to qualify.
* Books must be read during May 1st – 31st to qualify.

My challenge TBR:

I haven’t quite decided on which boxes I’m aiming for – I was going to start with either the Asian Muslim MC or South East Asian MC boxes, and go from there. For now, I’m going with the latter:

South East Asian MC
– I was thinking of doing a local title here, since I read a few local comics yesterday and feel like sharing about them.

  

Queer Romance with Asian MC
– I wish I waited to read Misa Sugiura now. I may still reread her for this, of course, but there are also Sara Farizan’s Tell Me Again How A Crush Should Feel, and Malinda Lo’s Huntress, which are both in my TBR.

  

Free Space
– There are SO MANY options. Maybe another local title, or one of the books I originally intended for the other boxes, or something completely different from my TBR, like Raven Stratagem by Yoon Ha Lee or Flame in the Mist by Renee Ahdieh.

 

Religious Asian MC
– Most probably, I will be reading That Thing We Call A Heart by Sheba Karim, or One Half from the East by Nadia Hashimi, or The Kidney Hypothetical by Lisa Yee.

  

Multiracial Multiethnic Asian MC
– Jenny Han’s latest Lara Jean book is in my TBR anyway, so I may be reading that. If you have other ideas of what I could read for this category, do share! (I’ve already read Skim by Mariko & Jillian Tamaki)

I’m so excited! Can’t wait to see what everyone else are reading, too.
