Ten Books I Meant to Read in 2017 But Didn’t Get To

All the Crooked Saints by Maggie Stiefvater
This was one of my most-anticipated titles of 2017, but it came out near Christmas, and all my money was tied up in presents, so I hardly bought any books for myself. I finally have a copy now, but I’m starting to wonder if I should keep this until I absolutely need a Stiefvater fix.

The Epic Crush of Genie Lo by F.C. Yee
I have no excuse for not reading this earlier. None. This is absolutely in my 2018 reading list.

The Essex Serpent by Sarah Perry
Well. Our Lit department don’t seem to have brought in this title. I waited and waited, since before it was published. I may end up getting this on kindle, like I did with Andrew Sean Greer’s Less (another 2017 book that our Lit department haven’t brought in.)

The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas
This book always seemed to be on the top of my TBR, and then I end up reading something else. Well, I’m reading it this year!

Her Body and Other Parties by Carmen Maria Machado
I’m not much of a short story reader, but this is one of the few collections that I’ve been meaning to try.

    

The Book of Dust: La Belle Sauvage by Philip Pullman
I don’t own a copy, and I never owned the HDM trilogy, and I’m obsessive enough that buying this would mean I’d want to buy the trilogy. So I’m waiting to borrow a friend’s copy instead.

The River Bank by Kij Johnson
TBH I only heard about this book because I follow Kathleen Jennings, who illustrated it, and she wrote about it on her blog or her Patreon page, I forgot which. But The Wind in the Willows was a childhood favourite of mine, and I love Kij Johnson’s short stories, so yes, I want to read this! I only haven’t yet because… this book is a little too expensive for me right now, and I need to save up for it.

Saints and Misfits by S.K. Ali
The moment I own a copy, I WILL BE READING THIS.

When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon
Just like The Hate You Give and Genie Lo, this book had been on the top of my TBR for most of the year, and yet somehow I never got around to it.

The Will to Battle by Ada Palmer
As much as I want to read this book, I’ll probably be procrastinating because I don’t see myself being able to afford this book anytime soon.

Conclusion: I wish we have the sort of library that brings in these books in my city! Also, I plan to read way more books than I’m actually able to read.
