thinking out loud

WWW Wednesdays (March 7th)

What are you currently reading?

I’m listening to Lucky in Love by Kasie West (using the Audible Romance package) and I’m stopping more often than usual right now because I’m getting to the part in the book where I’m sure Maddie (the protagonist) would make a series of bad decisions that would annoy me to no end. It’s one of those things where I cringe as I read/listen, and yet after stopping for awhile I’d reach out to continue the story anyway.

What did you recently finish reading?

Jean Grey Vol.1: Nightmare Fuel by Dennis Hopeless & Victor Ibañez. Technically, I was rereading the first four of the six issues in this volume, as I had read them in single issues before. This series focuses on the time-displaced Jean Grey who seemed to be having a harder time being in the shadow of her future self than the other time-displaced X-Men, and who could blame her? The idea of growing up to be adult!Jean is both a nightmare and an incredible pressure. Added to the fact that she was not ready for the Phoenix to come for her, young!Jean seeks help from its previous hosts in order to prepare herself for the fight ahead. I know that a lot of fans dislike the time-displaced X-teens, but I love them – and I love Jean/Marvel Girl the most.

What do you think you’ll read next?

I don’t really know, as I’m still in a book slump, but hopefully Truly, Devious by Maureen Johnson – we’re having an event based on this book in April so I should start on it soon. Plus, it’s Maureen Johnson!
